Most of our procedures are minimally invasive and performed in the office or on an outpatient basis, meaning smaller incisions, less downtime, and a quick return to normal activity. When an open approach is the more durable choice, that option is available too — and we will explain the trade-offs clearly.

Minimally invasive vs. open treatment
Many vascular problems can be treated more than one way, and the right choice depends on where the problem is, how extensive it is, and your overall health.
Minimally invasive (endovascular) procedures — such as angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, and vein ablation — are done through a tiny puncture rather than a large incision. They typically mean less pain, a same-day or outpatient visit, and a faster recovery.
Open surgery, such as bypass, involves a traditional incision and can be the more durable, longer-lasting solution for certain complex or long blockages.

Frequently asked questions
Most medically necessary vascular treatments — those addressing symptoms, circulation, or complications — are covered by insurance, including Medicare. Purely cosmetic treatments, such as sclerotherapy for spider veins with no underlying vein disease, generally are not. Our team can help you understand your coverage before treatment begins.
Many of our procedures — including diagnostic ultrasound, vein treatments, and office-based embolization — are performed right in our Largo office. More complex procedures are done at an outpatient surgical facility or hospital. Dr. Cardentey will tell you exactly where your procedure will take place and what to expect.
Recovery depends on the procedure. Minimally invasive treatments done through a small puncture usually let you go home the same day and return to normal activity within a few days, with some short-term restrictions. Open surgery involves a longer recovery. You will receive specific instructions and follow-up for your treatment.
