What to Expect

What to Expect at Your Visit

If you've never seen a vascular specialist before, you may not be sure what to expect. Our goal is to make your visit clear, comfortable, and worthwhile — so you leave understanding what's going on and what comes next.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Getting started is simple. You can call our Largo office or request an appointment online, and our team will help you find a time. You don't always need a referral to see us, though some insurance plans require one — if you're not sure, just ask and we'll help you check.

How should I prepare for my visit?

A little preparation helps us make the most of your time. When you come in, please bring:

  • Your insurance card and a photo ID
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any relevant records, imaging, or test results from other doctors
  • The name of your primary care physician and any specialists involved in your care
  • A list of your symptoms and any questions you'd like to ask

If you have a non-healing wound or a leg or foot problem, wear or bring footwear that's easy to remove so we can examine the area.

What happens during a vascular appointment?

Your visit centers on understanding your symptoms and your circulation. Dr. Cardentey will review your history, ask about your symptoms, and perform a focused examination. In many cases, we can perform a painless vascular ultrasound right in the office — often during the same visit — to see exactly how your blood is flowing. There are no needles or radiation involved.

Once we have a clear picture, Dr. Cardentey will explain what he finds in plain language, what it means for you, and what your options are. He'll take the time to answer your questions — clear communication is something patients consistently mention about his care.

What happens after my appointment?

You'll leave with a clear understanding of your diagnosis and a plan. Depending on what we find, the next steps might be:

  • A conservative plan — medication, lifestyle changes, or compression — with follow-up
  • Additional testing if more detail is needed
  • A minimally invasive or surgical procedure, which we'll explain fully so you know what to expect
  • Coordination with your other doctors, keeping everyone on your care team informed

There's never pressure — just honest guidance about what we'd recommend and why.

Do I need a referral or insurance to be seen?

We work with many insurance plans. Because coverage varies, we encourage you to contact our office with your insurance information so we can help you understand what to expect before your visit. Our team is happy to answer questions about coverage and billing.
